Dear
Friends in Chapter 95,
I frequently walk in the morning with
two close friends. This morning they were
not able to join me so I headed out for
a solo hike. Walking alone allowed me
to notice and appreciate things I may
have overlooked at another time. I noticed
the very top of the trees just beginning
to turn that autumn color and the sun
danced on my path more magically than
before. I followed the journey of a butterfly
until it decided to go beyond my boundaries.
My senses were nourished and creative
ideas popped into my head, at the same
time I felt a sense of joy and delight.
The combination of these feelings turned
my thoughts to other sources of joy, Ikebana
being one of those. I choose Ikebana in
my life as a gift to myself. It brings
pleasure; it enlivens my senses and feeds
my need for creativity. Ikebana has taught
me to stop and observe each flower or
branch, to focus and to create. It connects
me to humanity by encouraging the appreciation
of other cultures and perspectives. Friendships
with others who also enjoy and value Ikebana
give balance and pleasure to my life.
As your President this year, my hope for
each of you is that Chapter 95 encourages
your growth and love of Ikebana. I hope
we provide opportunities for you to continue
developing your skill and creativity,
enrichment and knowledge through our programs,
and joy in the companionship of one another.
Lets work together to make 2008-2009 a
fantastic year.
Friendship through Flowers,
Eileen Kin, President, Ikebana Chapter
95
